FAQ
common questions
Do I really need a lawyer to get a visa?
Although it is possible to get your visa without assistance, there are many reasons this may not be a good idea. First of all, your Spanish skills need to be exceptionally good to avoid misunderstandings. Also immigration law changes frequently in Ecuador and misinformation can cause complications and delays. If you do choose to try it on your own, consider consulting with an immigration specialist for guidance.
How long will it take to get my visa?
The entire process for one person usually takes 4-6 weeks. In cases with extenuating circumstances or multiple persons, the process may require more time.
Do I need a bank account in Ecuador in order to get my residency?
As a general rule, an Ecuadorian bank account is not required unless the visa you are applying for requires proof of income in which case a local bank account may be necessary. However, having a bank account within Ecuador can also be useful for international transfers and for making local payments and purchases.
How much does a visa cost?
The cost for a visa varies from $60 for a tourist visa up to $450 for a residence visa. A lawyer may charge an additional fee of $450 to $1000. The visa recipient will also pay for incidental expenses such as: apostilles, notary fees, background check fees, translations, postage, photocopies and the cost of the movimiento migratorio.
Once I get my visa, can I still travel or reside outside of Ecuador?
According to the Ley Orgánica de Movilidad Humana, residents holding a 2-year temporary residence visa may leave the country for a maximum of 90 days each year. Residents who already have a permanent visa may live or travel outside the country for periods of up to 5 years. In both cases, if the person exceeds the maximum time limit they will lose their visas and have to reapply if they want to continue residing in Ecuador.
"Helping people through the visa process painlessly is what I do best."

About Me
As an experienced attorney, specialized in immigration, I have assisted many clients in their dream to live, work or study in Ecuador. Whether you need a temporary visa, a retirement visa, a work visa, a professional visa, or any other visa Ecuador offers, I can help.
Getting the desired result (VISA APPROVED!) in your immigration case requires far more than “just completing the forms.” It is also essential to identify any potential legal issues and complications as soon as possible, and to know, based on experience, how to deal with them.
I can give guidance and answer questions or I can guide you through the entire legal process, start-to-finish, dealing with the Ecuadorian bureaucracy, verifying documents, helping to avoid delays, and resolving issues as they come up.
Your satisfaction is my goal — always.
Oscar Valenzuela-Morales is an excellent lawyer
He represented me in several different matters involving immigration. [Oscar] was relentless in advancing my position and undaunted by the red tape of Ecuadorian bureaucracy or the roadblocks on the path to achieving our goals.
It is not easy to find a lawyer in Ecuador who knows the law, is dedicated to serving his client, and refuses to stop until he has succeeded. I was fortunate to find one - Señor Oscar Valenzuela-Morales - whom I recommend without hesitation or reservation.
